Serious Delay in adoption of Borden Meadowlands
by Kent County Council

The handover of our development to Kent County Council was due to take place in January 2005, following the outcome of an indepenedent safety audit. The Residents Association has been working for some time to try and get either the developer (Bloor Homes) or the local authority (Kent County Council), to take responsibility for maintenance and safety issues such as:

• Layout of the roundabout
• Damaged or incorrectly spaced bollards
• Street lights not working
• Design and safety of the pinch point

There is currently no scheduled date for the handover; as the developer needs to transfer land from their ownership, to that of Kent County Council, the K.C.C.'s communications to us state:

"Bloor Homes have sold part of the land due to be adopted and will need to re-acquire it. This could potentially cause considerable delay in the adoption process and there is little benefit in carrying out a final inspection until the legal issues have been resolved in that further remedial works could arise during the delay."

This leaves the residents of our development in a state of limbo, where neither developer nor the council will take responsibility for any work required, at the current time. We will endeavour to find out which area of land Bloor Homes have sold and when the adoption of our development can be resumed.

Please attend our A.G.M. on Friday 7th April and let your views be registered on this issue with our local councillors.
